For parents of children 12 to around 36 months: what happens in the Sprouts rooms.
Sprouts is for children from 12 months to around 36 months. Our toddler programs offer toddlers the opportunity to explore and discover in ways that help them grow, with room to move at their own pace.
You will see children moving between interest areas, choosing toys from low shelves, and trying things on their own. Teachers stay close, helping when needed and stepping back when a child is working something out. Cots are assigned for naptime and a refrigerator stores perishable food.
Over the months in Sprouts, children build independence and social and emotional skills. They learn to express what they want and need, and they carry that confidence with them as they move on.
The Sprouts 1 classroom serves our young toddlers, from approximately 18–30 months of age. This classroom is designed to allow students to express their emerging sense of self by offering more “pods” with a larger array of toys to choose from.
Sprouts 2 serves children about 30 to 36 months. The room has five learning centers children move between freely. Each child gets their own cot for naptime, about two hours, with a quiet activity for children who stay awake. Children bring a lunchbox with an ice pack. Shoes stay on for frequent restroom trips. Teachers help with potty learning. Children must be potty trained to move on to Blossoms 1.
This flexible classroom is a transition space for young children. Teachers approach each child at their age and stage as they get ready for our Blossoms program. We use a secure app, Procare, to send updates through the day: naps, meals, activities, the toys your child enjoyed, plus pictures and videos.
Children build fine motor skills and gross motor skills through the day. They use their hands for small tasks and their whole bodies for bigger movement. Teachers plan activities that engage the five senses, so children see, hear, touch, taste, and smell what they are learning about. Music and movement are part of the day too. Children learn by moving, dancing, and playing games together.
Developing vocabulary, phonemic awareness, phonics, storytelling, rhyming. Clearly expressing thoughts and feelings. Asking and answering questions about stories. Language is a large part of every one of our programs, and teaching children to communicate well helps prepare them for the bigger world.
Teachers plan hands-on activities across the day. Children work on literacy, math, social studies, science, and art. Sensory play is part of the schedule too, so children can touch, pour, scoop, and explore materials with their hands. Activities are open-ended, which lets a child choose how to take part. Ask the teachers what your child worked on during the week.
In a toddler room, the day moves between free choice, group time, meals, and rest. Children choose from toys on low shelves and carry what they find to a mat or table. Teachers sit on the floor with them, naming what they see and giving words to feelings.
A predictable rhythm helps a toddler feel safe enough to try things alone. You see it at home: your child zips a coat, asks for milk, or brings you a book. Those small acts of independence come from practice in a room built for their size and pace.
